Iruppu Falls 

The Iruppu Water Falls is located at a distance of about 50 kms from Madikeri and 20 kms from Nagarhole National Park bordering the Wayanad district of Kerala. The Iruppu fall is surrounded by lush green Western Ghats. The roaring waters of the Iruppu falls and the picturesque surroundings make it favorite tourist destinations.

According to the popular legend, Rama and Lakshmana passed along the Brahmagiri range whilst searching for Rama’s beloved, Sita. When Rama asked Lakshmana to fetch him drinking water, Lakshmana shot an arrow into the Brahmagiri hills and brought into being the river Lakshmana Tirtha. Due to this legend, the Falls is believed to possess the power to cleanse sins and is visited by thousands of devotees on Sivrathri day.

Iruppu falls presents a magnificent view during the monsoon. Originating in the lofty Brahmagiri peaks, the falls plunge 170 ft in two different stages. Iruppu falls later became a part of the Lakshmana Teertha River. Hence, this waterfall is also known as Lakshmana Teertha Falls.

Harangi Dam

Harangi Dam

Harangi dam is built across the tributary of river Cauvery near Kushalnagar. Harangi dam is the first dam built across river Cauvery. The dam is an ideal place for picnic. It is about 36 kms from Madikeri. The dam is about 9 kms from Kushalnagar.

Harangi dam with a length of 846 meters and a height of 47 meters is constructed across a small stream in the forest of Dubare across the offshoot of river Cauvery close to Kushalnagar. Guest house facilities are available for tourists looking for settling calmly for a night.

Abbey Falls

Abbey Falls

Abbey falls is located amidst of lush green coffee plantation and spice estates of Madikeri. Located at a distance of 10 kms from Madikeri, the Abbey falls produces a spectacular sight of cascading water. The gushing waters of the Abbey falls, tumbling down a rocky ravine, results in a deafening sound that can be heard from a distance. The British called it the Jessie waterfalls in memory of Jessie, the daughter of Madikeri first captain. The best time to visit is during monsoon when the waterfall is in full gush and also during the beginning of winter.
